Summer closures narrow the activity list

Fire Wave/Seven Wonders, White Domes, and other exposed trails close annually from May 15 through September 30. Check Nevada State Parks before choosing any hiking product. During the closure, use shaded picnic areas, the visitor center, roadside viewpoints, and trails that the park lists as open.

Rainbow Vista opens across pale and red basins, while White Domes Road moves through tighter fins and curves. Low-angle light reveals bands, cross-bedding, and desert varnish without requiring a long trail.

Use the shaded picnic sites

Official shaded picnic areas with restrooms are at Atlatl Rock, Seven Sisters, the Cabins, near Mouse's Tank Trailhead, and White Domes. Bring food into the park and use only designated tables and parking.

Watch desert roads at dawn and dusk

Desert animals may cross quieter roads or appear near campground edges early and late in the day. Drive slowly, keep distance, and never use food to draw an animal closer.

Choose a guided outing for transport and interpretation

A Las Vegas departure can include the drive, a guide-led route, and interpretation of the park's geology and human history. Confirm the pickup point, current trail choice, walking requirements, and park conditions before booking.

Camp for sunrise and evening color

Choosing a campsite gives you first light, evening color, and a shorter walk back from the day's last overlook instead of Las Vegas hotel and restaurant variety. All campsites require reservations. Confirm availability, hookups, water, current fire restrictions, and campground-loop conditions through Nevada State Parks before arrival.
